One-to-One Coaching
At theperformancetrain we understand that every performer is unique and thus there is not a one-size-fits all solution to performance issues. We can profile your performance skills in order to assess your individual needs (strengths and weaknesess) and find out what might be holding you back or getting in the way of your performances. We then develop a customised program based on your individual needs. With the right motivation, application and willingness to implement the prescribed strategies you can really re-program your performing experience.
If you would like to book a one-to-one session with a consultant please contact theperformancetrain to find out how we can help you become a more confident, dynamic and inspiring performer, and unlock the potential within you.
Right-on-Track (RioT) Performing Short Courses
The RioT Performing courses are aimed specifically at performing artists to build confidence and optimise their performances. Based on sound principles adopted from both performance and sports psychology the strategies introduced in these workshops have been proven by elite musicians and athletes to be extremely effective.
By working through the 5 Key elements to mastering performance, performers will learn to:
- Recognise and understand the different and subtle ways nerves can manifest;
- Monitor thoughts, emotions, and anxiety levels and understand their impact on practice and performance;
- Learn to switch from practice (analytical thinking) mode to performance (inspired, creative thinking) mode;
- Reduce the affects of performance anxiety through relaxation and coping techniques;
- Tune-in to a great performance, using a strategy that focusses attention, regulates anxiety and controls breathing in just a couple of breaths;
- Mentally prepare for a performance;
- Cope with mishaps during a performance;
- Make a confident appearance on stage;
- Develop a pre-performance routine; and,
- Improve their practice and preparation for a performance.
RioT Performing is delivered as a series of 10 sequential, weekly workshops enabling participants to develop an effective, personalised ‘toolbox’ of skills and strategies that can be easily integrated into practice in order to optimise the quality of their performances. Throughout the duration of the course participants are offered 1-to-1 performance assessment advice and are provided with a Performance Mastery Kit (manual, worksheets and audio recordings of key strategies) to assist in learning the techniques and to enable them to monitor their progress. These mini-courses offer regular performance opportunities in a friendly and supportive environment to enable participants to build confidence in the skills and strategies they will be learning.
Course Overview
RioT Performing provides a comprehensive background on critical performance skills, the five key elements to mastering performance and the specific modes of thinking associated with a successful performance. Participants are encouraged to consider the various types of performances they may be required to give and the unique combination of elements that make up that performance. A major focus is given to exams and auditions which present a unique set of challenges when compared with other types of performances.
Over the course participants will develop an understanding of:
Nerves or Performance Anxiety – why they experience nerves, the three different ways they can manifest, how they impact their performances, how to reframe the way they view nerves and some key strategies for regulating nerves;
Pre-Performance Routines – and the importance of developing a pre-performance routine that helps them focus and switch into the right mind set in less than 30 seconds;
Confidence – the difference between internal vs. external sources of confidence, how to evaluate their self-talk, become their own coach and build confidence even when things are not going as planned;
Stage Presence – how to make a confident appearance onstage, why first impressions are so important, and becoming aware of what we are communicating to ourselves and others;
Preparation – how to be more productive in practice, why practice is NOT enough, practicing to perform vs. practicing to learn and improve, what it takes to be ‘well prepared’, developing a rock solid memory;
Focus – what they should be thinking about when they perform, how to quiet the unhelpful mental chatter, and how to focus through and past distractions such as mistakes and other unplanned mishaps or events;
Mental Rehearsal – how this under-used skill can be used to improve preparation, build confidence and reduce anxiety.
